So a post on my new favourite blog Lifehacker motivated me to finally get my act together and do something about my desk. In it’s previous state, my speakers were off centre (The right speaker was right in front of my while the left speaker was way away), I had nowhere to put things (aka my drawers were a disaster), I had this god-awful turntable cabinet beside my desk doing nothing other than holding things I didn’t use (the turn table was a spare; there was no stylus) and it was just in general, cluttered. Well, I picked things up, cleaned out the drawers, put in a shelf right above me and moved my desk over with the new found space after pitching the turntable cabinet. The results are, in my opinion, awesome!
Anyways, I’ve been working for an old neighbour taking down wallpaper. I will have you know that taking down wallpaper is the worst thing EVER. I have glue constantly stuck to my hands and my hands are getting really itchy. ‘Why would you do this?’, you may ask. Well, the answer is clear: $$$$$$. I’m unemployed and I have a big credit card bill to pay and I’m making like $250 from this. Also I am nice ;).
Today I ordered the new-ish Animal Collective EP Water Curses. I’m really excited to hear it cause they are quickly taking everyone ever’s place as the best band I have ever heard. I dig them all the way and then back again. It’s the greatest. I also ordered Panda Bear’s Person Pitch on vinyl and Blue Screen Of Death by DD|MM|YYYY which I had previously been unable to find anywhere so I clicked buy on insound reaaal quick. And finally, on Sunday I bought Strawberry Jam by Animal Collective on vinyl and Lookaftering by Vashti Bunyan. I haven’t had the chance to listen to the Vashti Bunyan a tonne but I’m beginning to right.. NOW!

My computer is finally in perfect shape. My dock is no longer cluttered, I’ve ditched stupid email clients and feedreaders and combined them all in to one with Netvibes, I also used Fluid App to make my Gmail, Netvibes, Youtube and Wikipedia in to standalone applications. Then I got some sweet Fluid icons from the Fluid Icon Flickr Pool to make my dock look sexy as hell. I also discovered automator, downloaded Bitrocket which is a way better torrent client than I was using before (Azureus.. UGH) although it doesn’t have protocol encryption but I couldn’t even get that to work in Assureus anyways. Then I finally got around to buying Quicktime Pro which I REALLY REALLY cannot afford but I needed it for stopmotion/time-lapse movies which I’m getting really in to. So wuteva.
Hang out with me.

So At Mount Zoomer by Wolf Parade is now out which means I feel ok about reviewing it even though I am poor therefore I haven’t purchased it.
At Mount Zoomer is the follow up to Apologies At The Queen Mary by Canadian indie rock band Wolf Parade. It was announced or spoken of in march of 2007. Several album names, a few member changes and tonnes of cut songs later, the boys are back and this time with a far deeper, more mature record. Band frontmen Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner both had their own seperate musical ventures in between Wolf Parade albums; Spencer ‘Busy Man’ Krug with Fifths Of Seven, Sunset Rubdown, Frog Eyes and Swan Lake and Mr. Boeckner with Handsome Furs and you can tell in this new album.
Starting off the album is ‘Soldier’s Grin’, one of the last remaining piece of old Wolf Parade you’ll hear on the album. Specifically in the quivering guitar and fun, simple synths. It’s a fun song to start off the album and pull you in to the more serious tones of the rest of the album.
The majority of the album is excellent and is interesting and easy to listen to at the same time. Very guitar centric with intense drums and Wolf Parades trademark vocals that sound like their hearts are being ripped out and dropped in to a bucket of boiling tears. Songs contain the usual Wolf Parade imagery of ghosts, moving away, breaking up and cities. Despite being generally good, interesting and easy to listen to, all-in-all, it becomes pretty forgettable. High points are without a doubt ‘California Dreamer’ with its epic pounding guitar and drums and emotional vocals and ‘Kissing The Beehive’ which starts slow but builds and eventually becomes just one of those WOW moments where you realize the record is worth it just for this moment. At least that’s what it does for me.
Unfortunately Wolf Parade is one of those bands who might have been better off making a Debut Album v2. An attempt to create a deeper, more thought provoking album has resulted in something that is excellent, it’s a really great album, but I can’t help but think of Weezer.
I think I’ve offiously given up on finding a job. Which mean I can focus on more important things like this weblog and making music. I’ll still casually look but I really don’t think anything will come up and I really would like this summer to be care free and full of facebook photo-ops.

Since my last post I’ve gotten Seeing Sounds by N*E*R*D and the recently released Styrofoam album. While I am impressed with both I find myself putting on Seeing Sounds a bit more (that is if I’m not listening to Sigur Ros). N*E*R*D is just more my style. Either that or I was expecting A Thousand Words to sound like his Death Cab/Postal Service Remixes. This isn’t a comparison of the two based on genre or anything. Just that I got came across them at the same time. I do dig Seeing Sounds a lot more than previous N*E*R*D albums but I’m not sure if that is cause it’s just better or if it’s because this year is the year of “our new album is a lot more accessible”. I’m leaning towards this album just being better
Also, I love Aaron Rogers.

And boy am I glad this isn’t a podcast.
I have never ever liked Sigur Ros.
I tried getting into them after hearing Thursday’s cover of Ny Batteri but all of their songs took SO long to start (Ny Batteri included. Oh Lord) that I just never got in to them. This is why I was quite startled when I loaded their new album “Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust” which, according to Wikipedia, translates to With a Buzz In Our Ears We Play Endlessly, in to iTunes and heard first track, Gobbledigook. The song begins with guitar, lalalas and drums.. No howling in the distance accompanied by ambient sounds or other obscure (to us, atleast) Icelandic instrumentation. The rest of the song plays as simple and pleasurable as the beginning.
The second track Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur (oh man) continues the upbeat mood with a song that I can only describe as something as beautiful as early Polyphonic Spree but without repeating the same lines over and over, as far as I can tell. The album eventually slows down but after the first few songs pull you in, it’s difficult to stop listening because it’s all just so gorgeous.
It is both fortunate and unfortunate that the vocals play such a heavy part in Sigur Ros’ music. On one hand, it adds a sense of mystery and an exotic feeling to the music and the lead singers voice suits what they are playing so well unlike some *cough*m. ward*cough* that it makes up for not understanding; It’s as though it’s another instrument. On the other hand, the music is so passionate that it would be wonderful to hear it in a language I can understand.
All in all, the album is incredible. There are a few songs with English titles and one sung completely in english (although I still can’t understand what he is singing). It’s the first album from SR that I have actually been able to listen to from start to finish and I hope that this is the gateway to me giving them a second try.
Gobbledigook - Sigur Ros
Just keep in mind that the only album I have listened to is Agaetis Byrjun and I have only listened to some of that.

I’m really diggin’ this. Even if I had known Katt Williams is a comedian before I heard his hip-hop album/mixtape, I still wouldn’t have known who the heck he was. He is basically the result of hanging out with rappers and deciding that he could do that too. The strange thing is, he CAN do that too. It’s pretty much just your typical club rap and the number of bad songs on the album outnumber the good songs, it’s ok, just keep in mind that it’s the first mixtape from a comedian. I don’t really know anything about the album, unfortunately titled “It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’”. I don’t know if it’s out, when it’s out or if it’s even being released ever..
Tracks that stand out are Changes Ft. Lyfe Jennings, Mind Right and Hustler Hand.

I figured since elbo.ws went through the trouble of changing my feed address, I would start mp3 blogging again. It IS something that I love doing but I just became discouraged after I got sick and my view/visit count dropped immensely. I don’t really have much to say right now so here are some things I’ve been really in to lately:
Derek - Animal Collective
Aragon - Brian Eno
The Evil That Never Arrived - Stars Of The Lid

I’m sitting here in a Days Inn bored out of my miiiind. Atleast there is internet but I’m not looking forward to sleeping on the floor tonight. I don’t feel comfortable as a 19 year old guy sleeping in the same bed as my dad.
Here’s some Minus The Bear Re-produced by P.O.S. I never really got in to Minus The Bear but I’ve always dug them enough and I have always loved P.O.S. This song was on P.O.S’s myspace for a while.

Ugh..
The new iPhone came out today and it’s coming to Canada and I am completely flustered, for lack of a better term.. I’m so worried I wont be able to get it and if I do, be able to afford the plan. Jakob’s mom calls me a tech ho and I suppose it’s because I always have to have the best thing. It’s just my version of flashy clothes and nice shoes. I don’t buy clothes and I buy shoes only when I need them but when that new iPod comes out I buy it in a second (almost literally). The new one has 3G internet and A-GPS and the iPhone 2.0 software. I’m so excited to pre-order it (I had better be able to pre-order it cause there is no way I am waiting in line for one). It looks as though monthly it will be $70 to start but that wont include as many texts as I would like, but will include unlimited 3G data. That is what AT&T is charging so it could be way different.
My sister got two turtles the other day. They are puny. They’re pretty cute though, I guess. The tank is gross cause my dad still needs to put in the filter. Pretty much all they do at the moment though is swim furiously in the corners trying to get out I think. It’s kind of sad. The most fun part of them is flipping them over and then they use their heads to get back on their feet, hahaha.

Today Jakob came over and I copied about a thousand songs from his pod. I finally have From Me To U by Juelz Santana which I haven’t been able to find for so long. I don’t know why people rag on that album so much, reviewers specifically. Yeah his flow is slow and I guess his rhymes could use a bit more substance but I’d take my man Santana over Jim Jones any day +o(
